Beat the energy slump and stay on top of your game.

The energy black hole.

Ever feel like an afternoon slump coming on? We’ve all been there. Reading the same line over an over again while experiencing nothing short of a full system shut down at your desk. Do not fear for we have come up with a handful of ways to help you stay ahead of the yawn.

1. Walk This way

Taking a short walk around the block. A gentle boost to rewarm your muscles while giving you the needed distraction from the monotony of the office routine.

2. Breathe

Combine the above with some deep breaths. Fresh air will help reawaken your senses and give your system another gentle jolt.

3. Take a Power Nap

Sometimes the easiest thing is to put your head down and switch off. 5-10 minutes is all it takes to give your brain the much needed reset.

4. Have some Green Tea

Drink some green tea. The caffeine in green tea will give your body a gentle nudge in the right direction while the wealth of antioxidants and micronutrients will only add to your overall health.

5. Top Up

An energy to up (as opposed to just a snack) is a great way to give your body little extra energy before your next meal. Go for highly nutritious and unrefined top ups that will energize you mind, body and taste buds. Try a slice of rye, with a layer of almond butter and sliced strawberries. Its AMAZING.

Your nutrition is one of the main determining factors when it comes to your energy levels. A post lunch slump can be experienced when the lunch time meal contains either too much protein or too much carbohydrates. An excess of either can result in both being converted to sugar meaning that the usual sugar slump applies even in excess of more complex carbohydrates or protein.

6. Sleep

Sometimes there is just little that you can do so make sure to get an early night in order to help your body regenerate and stock up on energy for the day ahead. While much of the function of sleep is still a mystery to the guys in white lab coats the consensus on its ability to regenerate our energy stores is unanimous. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep every night.

With healthy wishes,

Dmitri
